James Roy was born September 17, 1947 in Seymour to Roy B. and Sybil Crane Morris.  He was and Eagle Scout and a 1966 graduate of Seymour High School, excelling in football and track.  He attended McMurray College on a football and track scholarship for a year, transferring to Tarleton State College, where he was on the track team and qualified for the National UIL tournament in the shot put.  He graduated in 1971 with his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts.

James Roy began his teaching career at Coronado High School in Lubbock before moving to Seymour, where he taught for many years and taught countless students valuable life skills.
