Barbara P Malone

September 5, 1918 — April 6, 2017

Barbara Powell Malone, 98 of Seymour, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 2, 2017. She was born September 5, 1918 near Red Springs, Texas, the fourth of seven children born to Earl and Alva Myhand Powell. She began school in Red Springs and later graduated from Seymour High School. On January 16, 1937, Barbara married Walter E. Malone in Seymour. The couple farmed and ranched in the area for over 80 years. Following Walter's death in 1993, Barbara continued the family business by learning to operate the tractors, build fences, and tend the cattle at the age of 75. She persisted in hoeing weeds and riding her lawnmower until she was 96, when her strength began to fail.

Barbara was the beloved matriarch of her family, and adored her grandsons, who spent much of their youth helping with the farm. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Malone and her son, 1st Lieutenant Robert E. Malone, who was killed in action in Vietnam on April 15, 1968.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Margie Brooks and husband, John of Wichita Falls; two grandsons, Kevin Brooks and wife, Melessa of Seymour, and Jeffrey Brooks and wife, Trenna of Frisco; one granddaughter, LaDonna Buschmann and husband, Kevin of Chicago, Illinois; 5 great grandchildren, Jonathan Brooks, Hunter Brooks, Annabel Brooks, Dillon Buschmann and Aiden Buschmann; and one great great grandson, Rhyder Brooks.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., at the Seymour Church of Christ, where Barbara was a long-time member, occupying the same pew for decades. Minister Ken Holsberry will officiate. A Private Interment will be held at the Riverview Cemetery in Seymour, under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.

A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Rd., Wichita Falls, Texas 76310 or to the Robert E. Malone Memorial Scholarship Fund, Abilene Christian University, ACU Box 29132, Abilene, Texas 79601-9973.
