Betty Ruth (Grant) Floyd, 91, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at the McCamey Convalescent Center in McCamey, Tx, where she has been a resident for the last 8 years.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Calvary Baptist Church in Seymour with Benny Archer officiating. Burial will be in Bomarton Cemetery following the service, under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Betty was born in Chickasha, Ok, in 1924, the only child of Herbert Allen Grant and Leona Vernetta (Allen) Grant. She grew up in southern Missouri and married Horace W. “Shorty†Floyd of Bomarton, Sept. 9, 1944, in Oklahoma City, where they’d met at Douglas Defense Plant. They initially resided in Missouri until after having their first son, David Allen in 1946. They moved to Baylor County where the family lived until Horace & Betty moved to McCamey in 2007.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Horace in 2010 and son David in 2013. She is survived by her children, Dale Floyd of Panhandle, TX, Phyllis Inman and husband Bob of Ardmore, OK, and Vernetta Mickey of Centennial, CO; 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
With her priority on caring for her family, she worked part-time jobs including cafeteria cook at Seymour Elementary and later seamstress at Russell Newman factory. Her passion and energy focused on gardening, delicious bread-making & made-from-scratch meals, sewing (especially for her daughters), and support and volunteer activities surrounding the school, band, football, Scouts, Camp Fire Girls and church involvement of her 4 children.
After Horace’s retirement, they relished traveling in their RV, most often to visit the 9 grandchildren living throughout Texas and New Mexico, and to see relatives and friends in western U.S. and Missouri & Arkansas. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Visitation is scheduled Monday, from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m., at the funeral home
Memorials may be sent to the Seymour Ministerial Alliance.
