Charlotte Harriette Godley, 87 of Temple, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2021 in Temple.

Services will be held Friday, February 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Seymour with Steve Sullwold officiating under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.

Charlotte was born on July 2, 1933 the youngest of her sisters and the baby of the family, in New York to Ralph and Alexanderina Haynes.  Her father was a barnstormer pilot and crop duster, which caused the family to move across many states throughout her childhood.  She attended Midwestern State University where she met her first husband, James Robert Dowell.  The couple married in August of 1958.  He was a federal game warden, moving the family from Texas, to Utah, to Kansas and back to Texas because of his work.  He passed away in January of 1973.  She married Bernard E. Godley, an accountant in Seymour in June of 1978.  He passed away in February of 2017.  Charlotte was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School for a number of years and organized the news letters.  She volunteered with the Baylor County Child Welfare Board for many years.  Charlotte lived in Temple at Elmcroft Assisted Living Home from 2017 until 2020.  After the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, she moved into the home of her daughter where she happily and comfortably spent the last eight months of her life with family.  Charlotte faced many obstacles that could have taken her life, yet she overcame each one.  She was a very strong woman, never once complaining and always insisting to be of help.  She was the definition of a resilient human being.  Along with her two husbands, she was also preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Alexanderina Haynes and her sisters, Reanie Glasscock and Betty Wolford.

She is survived by her children, Hunter Dowell and wife, Alisa, Robin Gomez and husband, Fabian and Bryan Godley; grandchildren, Chaz Myers and wife, Jerica, Hannah Narvaez and husband, Alan, Dru Gomez, Austin Dowell, Jameson Dowell and Weston Dowell and her great grandchildren, Brier Pierce, Harleigh Myers and Kellan Myers.

The family suggests memorials to the Baylor County Child Welfare Board.
