He was born in Odessa and grew up in Woodson working at his Grandpa Odom’s Sinclair gas station. He went to high school in Breckenridge, where his mother owned her own bakery (Mae’s pies). Tom’s peanut and candy delivery brought him to Seymour where most still reside. He left Tom’s to work as a cowboy for the Feedlot, where he found a love to start his rodeo days. He made a career change after working as a foreman for BK Electric to go back to college and graduated from Midwestern State University, Summa Cum Laude with a double major in History and Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology. While going to college he continued his ranch hand work and even drove a bull-wagon. He later retired from Rolling Plains Management Corporation. He was 32nd d degree Mason and past master of the Seymour Masonic Lodge.
When he was not raising kids, taking grandkids fishing, teaching how to shoot guns and make and collect knives, he served on the Chamber of Commerce, coached little league baseball, peewee, midget, and alumni football, refereed JH and HS football games, served as President of the Band Booster club, and deacon of the First Christian Church.
A lifetime is not long enough to love someone like him, but we are all very grateful to have had the opportunity to love and enjoy the time we did have.
We will celebrate his life on Thursday, November, 14, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Seymour. Burial will be in the Woodson Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
