E.P. (Gene) Alvarado, 98, of Seymour, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2016 in Seymour.
Funeral Mass will be held Sunday, November 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Albert Kanjirathumkal and Deacon Jim Novak officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Eujenio Pena Alvarado, also known as E.P. or Gene Alvarado, was born September 6, 1918 in La Costa, Texas to Juan F. and Refugia Pena Alvarado. He married Sara Juarez on Dec. 23, 1939 in La Costa. The couple lived in La Costa before moving to Robstown, then to Corpus Christi, where he worked as a truck driver for Braslau Bros. Furniture Store and Cantwell Mattress Co. Gene then started doing farmwork, moving the family to and from Colorado. At one point, during this time, he passed through Seymour and really liked the area, so he ended up moving the family to Baylor County in 1961 and Seymour in 1970. Gene farmed for Jim Morris, Walter Malone, Pinky Arledge and Ron Lawrence until his retirement. He enjoyed working outside and doing wood work. He took great pride in his family and they always came first in his life. Gene had been in the Seymour Nursing Home since 2010, making numerous friends with the patients and nursing staff. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Sara; his parents; a brother, Bonefacio Alvarado; a daughter, Ramona; a grandson, Jesus Garza; a great granddaughter, Echko Shia Whitefield; 2 great granddaughters, Rosalene Sarae Cera and Piper Grace Jarvis; and 2 daughters-in-law, Ann Alvarado and Linda Alvarado.
He is survived by his 11 children, Julia Alvarado, Miguel (Mike) Alvarado and Daniel Alvarado and wife, Margie all of Seymour, Macario Alvarado of Royal City, WA, Alicia Adama and husband, Adan of Flower Bluff, TX, Amy Rodriguez and husband, Jose and Linda Garza all of Denton, Josie Ramirez of Wichita Falls, David Alvarado and wife, Corina of San Antonio, Lupe Hessel and husband Mickey and Yolanda Hernandez and husband, Gilbert of Pilot Point; 29 grandchildren; 71 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren , who all knew him by Welo-Welo; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home. A rosary will follow at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at the church.
