Gerald Dale Chandler was born on November 12, 1940 in Seymour, Texas to Johnny and Ida Ruth Crouch Chandler. Gerald was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great, great grandfather, uncle, cousin, friend.

Gerald graduated Seymour High School in 1960. Gerald began his career at Seymour Lumber Company. He next worked at BK Electric at a Meter Reader. He worked at Seymour High School as a Vocational Trades Instructor. He ended his career as a Self Employed Carpenter until he retired in the Fall of 2020.

On July 1, 1961, Gerald and Winona Ruth Overton had a home wedding. Their union was blessed with a daughter, Giva Conner, married to Norman and a son, Guy Dale Chandler, married to Socorra Chandler. Gerald’s grandchildren, Tabitha and Isaac Conner, Cassie Flores, Andrew Chandler, Sara Chandler.

You could sum up Gerald’s life by saying he was a man who loved serving others. A lot of that began through his church, First Baptist Church of Seymour. Gerald was always willing to help where he was needed. He especially enjoyed serving with the Brotherhood there, traveling on mission trips to Wyoming and Montana, doing construction work for people who needed a helping hand. That was just the kind of man he was. If something needed to be done, Gerald was willing to show up and do it.

He also served his community as a board member for the Baylor Water Supply Corporation. It may not sound like a big thing to some people, but it’s another example of the kind of life Gerald lived—quietly serving others and helping take care of the community around him.

Gerald didn’t need attention or recognition. He was simply someone who believed in doing what needed to be done and helping the people around him.

Gerald peacefully passed away at his home on Friday, March 13, 2026 in Seymour, Texas at the age of 85.
