James was born in Knox City, Texas, December 17, 1954 and lived in Rhineland until 1969 where he spent his boyhood years, roaming the cedar breaks and Brazos River area in Knox County. Although gentle in spirit he was fierce at football during high school and enjoyed fast cars and motorcycles. In 1969, his big family of 11 brothers and sisters moved to Windthorst where he graduated from High School in 1973. He met Jimmie Sue in 1984 and they were married on April 30, 1988 in the Rhineland Catholic Church where James had attended as a boy.
James was a man's man who was admired and respected by everyone who knew him. With a quick smile, always dressed in his cap, jeans and boots, this quiet and gentle giant loved the country, working the land and being outside. Outdoors was his favorite place. He enjoyed farming, hunting, skeet shooting, go-cart/lawn mower racing, working with kids and being married to the love of his life, Jimmie Sue. Being a big kid himself, James was especially loved by his nieces and nephews and the many young people that he mentored. He particularly enjoyed helping Jimmie Sue care for niece Natalie's kids in Dallas for a couple of years by serving as the designated (and preferred) playmate.
Known as a hard worker throughout his life, he held various jobs: working at a dairy farm, as a truck driver, in the oil field as a roughneck and as a mechanic, employed by John Deere in Seymour for the last 25 years, in the latter years named Quality Implement. He could fix anything and tackled every task. He was a loyal and active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus where he held several leadership positions. He was proud to have been a member of the Board of Directors of the local Farm Bureau for many years and especially in the year in which it was named as best in the state.
This world lost a person of integrity who was loved and will be deeply missed. God gained a spirit that can teach the angels how to fix anything.
There will be a visitation at Archer Funeral Home in Seymour at 5pm Tuesday December 27th followed by a wake service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Seymour, starting at 6:30 pm. Funeral Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 2 pm Wednesday, December 28th followed by burial in the Seymour Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home, Seymour, Texas.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions in James's memory be made to organizations that he cared about or have been established in his honor: James Loran Scholarship Fund, c/o Interbank in Seymour, 100 N.
