James Clifton Turner, 93 of Seymour, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019 in Seymour.
Services will be held Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Methodist Church with Benny Archer and Rev. Ryan Ford officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
James was born July 9, 1925 in the community of Aberfoyle, Texas near Wolfe City to Robert Samuel and Lula Irene Comer Turner. He was raised on the family farm near Commerce. He was a WWII Army veteran. He married Peggy Ruth Jones on June 11, 1955 in Pampa. James worked in bridge and road construction for Ferrier Brothers in Seymour for 25 years and in 1971, he went to work for Cooper Woodruff Road Construction in Amarillo as a dragline operator, where he retired after working 26 years. James was known as one of the best dragline operators in the area. One of his favorite pastimes was gardening. James also loved bird hunting and fishing. He got a great deal of enjoyment working on lawnmowers and three wheelers with his grandson and great grandson. James was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lula Turner; 3 brothers, Robert Turner, Dorsey Turner and Swanzy Turner and 3 sisters, Louie Cargile, Betty Myers and Estelle Schneider.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Turner of Seymour; 2 daughters, Debbie Turner and Kay Moline and husband, Kenneth all of Seymour; a son, Jerry Turner of Seymour; 2 grandchildren, Kourtney Kouns and husband, Josh and Klifton Moline and wife, Jenni all of Seymour; 2 great grandchildren, Jackson James Moline and Blake Elizabeth Moline and a brother, Elbert Turner and wife, Loyse of Greenville.
Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
