John Jimmie Hrncirik, 92, of Megargel, passed away Friday, April 6, 2018 in Megargel.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., at the Round Timber Pavilion in the Round Timber Cemetery with Benny Archer officiating, with military graveside rites provided by the U.S. Army, under the direction of Archer Funeral Home, Seymour, Texas.
John Jim was born June 20, 1925 to Jim and Albina Kovar Hrncirik at the family home in Megargel. He was a graduate of Megargel High School. While attending Texas A&M University, he was drafted into the Army. He served as an infantryman and communications chief with the 309 infantry 78th division Company E and saw combat in the Ardennes, Rhineland and the Battle of the Bulge during the final push by the allies into Germany during WWII. He was known as "Hipshot" to his comrades, a name given to him by his commander. He installed and kept in operation the telephone wires and lines of communication to most of the platoons. He was a purple heart recipient. Following the war, he came back to Archer County and worked as a farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Albina Hrncirik and his sister, Evelyn Livingston.
He is survived by the family of his heart, Harley Portwood, Sunday McAdams and husband, Clint, Sommer Portwood and Skye Urbanczyk and husband Steven; grandchildren, Kade McAdams, Layton McAdams and Charli Urbanczyk; and his sister's family, Joe Don Livingston, Gerald Livingston, Jim Livingston and Lisa Livingston and 9 great nieces and nephews.
