Mary K. Porter passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2015 in Seymour, at the age of 96.
Memorial services will be held
Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.
, at the First Methodist Church with Rev. Ryan Ford, officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Mary K. was born June 14, 1919 in Frost, Texas to J.B. and Eula Slay Jones. She was a graduate of Frost High School and received a Bachelor's degree from Texas Women's Universtiy. As a senior in college, she was president of the student body and introduced Eleanor Roosevelt when she came to the campus to dedicate the Little Chapel in the Woods. She taught school for a short time in Seymour, before marrying Charles Thomas Porter on July 5, 1942. The couple had three children, Linn, Charles Thomas, Jr., and Carl Slay. She was a member of the Friends of the Library, the Seymour P.T.A. and numerous other organizations in Baylor County throughout her life. She was an active member and
Sunday
school teacher at the First United Methodist Church. Mary K. was charming and witty and was often asked to speak at social occasions. She was a delight to know. A visit with her always left everyone feeling happier. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.B. and Eula Jones, her husband, Charles T. Porter, and a daughter, Linn Harkrider.
She is survived by 2 sons, Tom Porter and wife, Patty and Carl Porter and wife, Pat, all of Seymour; 2 sisters, Anne Ballew of Dallas and Betty Joe Madinger of Scarsdale, NY; 5 grandchildren, Scott Porter and wife, Shane of Wichita Falls and Brandon and wife, Shannon, all of Wichita Falls, Jill Hampton and husband, Kevin of Little Elm, Matt Porter and Kevin Porter, both of Seymour; 7 great grandchildren, Collin and Clair Porter of Wichita Falls, Elysa, Kathryn and Knox Donoho of Holliday, and Nathan and Gracie Porter of Wichita Falls and 3 step-great grandchildren, Cameron, Coby and Chase Hampton of Little Elm.
A reception will follow the services
on Saturday
in the Fellowship Hall at the First United Methodist Church.
