Owen Howze Mobley passed away on July 20, 2016 after a full life on this earth.
Services will be held Sunday, July 24, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., at the First Methodist Church with Rev. Ryan Ford officiating. Burial will follow in the Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home, Seymour, Texas.
Owen was born in Bomarton, Texas on August 6, 1938 to Chester N. and Pauline Parks Mobley. He attended Bomarton schools through the 8th grade and attended high school in Seymour. As a fierce competitor in basketball and football, Owen was able to attend McMurry College in Abilene as a scholarship athlete.
While at McMurry, Owen married Charlene Davis and began his family. Upon graduation, he began teaching and coaching in the Abilene area at Putnam schools and Abilene Wylie. After several years as an educator, Owen took the opportunity to work at an oil company in Many, Louisiana as a distributor.
Owen went to work for the Permian Corporation as an oil transportation truck driver. Through the years with Permian, Owen was promoted and with each promotion he was relocated to towns throughout Texas. He started in Snyder, then Novice, to Portland, to Midland, Spearman and back to Midland where his three children graduated and where he also served a term on the Greenwood ISD Board of Trustees.
In 1981, Owen married Barbara Douglas. They moved with Permian to Houston, where he completed the last 10 years of his career. He retired in 1996 while serving as Vice President of Operations for the company that had become Scurlock-Permian. He continued working as a consultant with Scurlock-Permian through its acquisition by Plains All-American Pipeline.
Through his last years in the consultant role, Owen took up his true Passion, farming. He drove every weekend from Houston to Seymour. In 1998, he moved to Midland while continuing to farm the family land in Baylor County. In 2001, he made one final move to Seymour, where he joyfully turned circles in the earth on his John Deere tractor.
