Shirley Faye Johnson, 90 of Seymour, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2026 in Seymour.
A memorial graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Masonic Cemetery with Dillon Fox officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Shirley was born on December 24, 1935 in Roby to William James “Bill” and Florence Almarine Parsons Black. She was a 1953 graduate of Jacksboro High School, where she was the Head Majorette, the Band Sweetheart, FFA Sweetheart, a Senior Class Officer and a member of the National Honor Society.
After graduation, Shirley worked as a bookkeeper for Champ Clark Oil Company in Jacksboro, a first job that she dearly loved. She married James H. Johnson on January 9, 1954. He preceded her in death on September 29, 2001.
Shirley was a member of the First Baptist Church of Seymour and she loved her Jesus. She was a homemaker and mom of three children, Don, Ron and Sheryl. She loved being a stay-at-home mom for her children. She also kept the books for the Seymour Ice Company which was located beside her home. She and her husband were members of the Starlighters Square Dance club and enjoyed square dancing. Shirley also loved spending time at the Lake Kemp cabin and fishing to her heart’s content. She had no problem storming into the lake cabin at 2 in the morning, waking everyone up, to show them her big catch. Shirley loved her home and taking great care of it; inside and out. Her children remember coming home from school, changing out of their school clothes, waking up the next morning to get dressed and finding the previous day’s clothes washed, ironed and neatly folded in their drawers. She dearly loved spending time with all her family around her. Along with her husband, James, she was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, William W. Black and a sister, Beverly Black Shoun.
She is survived by her three children, Don W. and Martha Johnson of Horseshoe Bay, Ron E. and Jana Johnson of Jacksboro and Sheryl and Rick Wiles of Seymour; a sister, Lorraine Black Williams of Burleson; 7 grandchildren, Don W. Johnson Jr. of North Carolina, Brenda Butler of Denton TX, James E. Johnson of San Antonio TX, Ashley Johnson Edwards of Katy TX, Lynsey Wiles of Seymour TX, Whitney Wiles of Seymour TX, Nick Wiles of Seymour TX.; 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department in Shirley’s name.
