Virginia Diane Burnett,78, of Seymour, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. She was born on April 25, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Roy and Dorothy Gover. Diane was a 1962 graduate of Wichita Falls High School and a 1966 graduate of Midwestern State University.
Diane met Larry Burnett in Seymour at the Seymour Rodeo in 1966. They married on October 21, 1967. After Larry got out of the Air Force, they lived in Seymour for a couple of years. In 1971, they moved to Graham where Diane worked for the First National Bank. During their time in Graham, their sons Lance and Tommy were born. In 1986, they moved the family back to Seymour to the Carter Taylor Ranch where Larry was raised. While in Seymour, Diane worked for John Underwood Bookkeeping, Ron Laney Oil Co., and Davis & Wardlaw. She retired from the Baylor County Attorney’s Office.
Diane was active in TEEA Club, Baylor County Museum Board, Seymour Cemetery Association, Benevolence Committee of First Baptist Church, Sigma Kappa sorority of MSU, MYF group from high school, and Ladies Sunday School Class.
All of her life, Diane loved and supported others. She went to Lance and Tommy’s 4-H competitions, rodeos, and school activities. After the grandkids came along, Diane and Larry were at every event they participated in. She encouraged others with her kind words and soft heart. She loved big and everyone that knew her felt her love.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry, on October 29, 2020, and her parents, Roy and Dorothy Gover. She is survived by her sons, Lance and Amy Burnett of Seymour, Tommy and LeeAnn Burnett of Vernon; sister, Debbie and Brad Bryans of Katy; grandchildren Kolton and Tycee Burnett of Vernon, Allison Burnett of Seymour, Jacie and Dillon Fox of Seymour, Kutter Burnett and Ashton Merkord of Vernon; 2 great-grandchildren Rawlins Burnett and Hudson Fox; niece Bailey Bryans of Katy; many cousins and friends too numerous to mention.
Services will be held on Sunday, February 5, at 2 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Seymour, Texas, with Dr. David Warren officiating. Interment will follow in Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Saturday from 6 to 7 pm at Archer Funeral Home.
Memorials can be made to Seymour Cemetery Association, Baylor County Museum, First Baptist Church, Meals on Wheels of Seymour, or any charity of your choice.
