Jerene Goodwin Jenkins, age 90 of Olney, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019 in Wichita Falls following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64.5 years, Archie in 2013; her parents, two sisters, Billie Kreeger and Barbara Brown and one brother, Kenneth "Bud" Goodwin.
Zuleka "Deakie" was born January 3, 1929 in Baylor County to William "Bill" and Virginia Rogers Goodwin. Zuleka married Archie Lee Jenkins on October 2, 1948 in Seymour. Zuleka and Archie were privileged in their life together to live in many of the western states including the Pacific Northwest. During this time enjoying many hunting, fishing and camping adventures. Settling in Olney in 1988 for their retirement years they were able to enjoy many visits from children, grandchildren along with other relatives and friends.
Zuleka was an accomplished seamstress throughout her years and enjoyed quilting and crocheting. She loved cooking and baking most in her life and was known for her peach cobblers. She was very talented at wedding, anniversary and specialty cakes especially during the holidays. She was blessed with two green thumbs and could grow anything. She loved gardening, flowers and houseplants. She became a mema for the first time in 1970 and has lived life through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Zuleka was an avid volunteer with the Hamilton Hospital Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She enjoyed her work tending the patients at the hospital as well as working in the gift shop.
Zuleka is survived by her four daughters, Brenda Hedrick and husband Carroll of Bryan; Nanci Jones and her husband Bill of Midland; Karen Jenkins of Olney; and Sharon Flukinger of Bryan; two sisters, Glenna Stennett of Olney and Kathy Moore of Seymour; a brother, Gene Goodwin of Seymour; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and more extended family and friends to count.
The family will receive visitors at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 30 at Lunn's Funeral Home,
300 S. Avenue M
, in Olney. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Lunn's Funeral Home with Brother Andy Graham of Southside Baptist Church in Olney, officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour under the direction of Archer Funeral Home in Seymour.
