Joe was born on August 1, 1937, in Seymour to Blondy and Margaret MacFarland Young. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1955 and married Noretta 'Rita' Nix on December 26, 1958, in Seymour.

He was an artist, rendering many western scenes in charcoal and pencil in his early years and advancing to oil painting. He hand painted many signs in the area throughout the years and for many years painted business windows in anticipation of the annual Seymour Rodeo and Reunion.

Joe is survived by his devoted caretaker and wife of almost 63 years, Rita of Seymour; daughter, Lita Slaggle and husband, Billie, of Seymour; son, Barry Young and wife, Cathy, of Abilene, Texas; son, Monte Young of Seymour; 9 grandchildren - Will Young and wife, Monica; Joey Young; Katie Arellano and husband, Victor; Kirsti Young; Ryan Young and wife, Macy; Rachael Hons and husband, Derek; Sarah Sanchez and husband, Shawn; Monica Young; Drew Young and wife, Kayla; 14 great-grandchildren: Jasmine, Maddie, Hannah, Cody and Barton Sanchez; Abi and Ben Arellano; Mollie and Meadow Hons; Cayden and Jace Young; Jonah Young; Hannah Young and Julian Young.
