Sandra J. (Sluder) Jones

Sandra Jones left this world on May 8th, 2023 after a short illness at Seymour Hospital. Sandra was born in Wichita Falls TX on 11/21/44 to A.L and Vera Sluder. She met the love of her life at Midwestern State University, Wayland Jones and they were married on September 13th, 1966. They have lovingly always been known as “Wayland and Sandra”. They loved hunting and dancing and being with friends and family. They truly were one in all things. Sandra graduated from Midwestern State University with a Bachelor’s degree in education, TWU with her masters in Library Science, and she attended Texas Tech to complete coarse work for Journalism. She even had an article published in Readers Digest. She taught for 32 years and loved every student she taught.

Even more than her students, she loved her animals and would take in any strays. She loved her cats and always had several hanging around the house for her to love and care for. Despite not having any children of their own, Wayland and Sandra adopted several of their friend’s kids and their grandkids and treated them as their own. They lovingly referred to them as “GiGi and Toot’s”.

Services will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. David Warren officiating.  Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.

Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, A.L. and Vera Sluder and six siblings. She is survived by her husband, Wayland Jones, her sister, Shirley Soles, her niece, Jamie Caldwell, her nephews, Eddie Benham and Jerry Jones as well as numerous other nieces and nephews, friends and family.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
