Shirley Jean Jones

Shirley Jean Jones, 88 of Denton, passed away Friday, December 4, 2020 in Denton.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Derrell Patterson officiating in the Post Oak Cemetery in Breckenridge under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.

Shirley was born on August 3, 1932 in Breckenridge to Doc and Georgia Mae Amason Jones.  She lived a full life and always had the best stories to tell.  She loved fishing, playing bingo with her best friend, Florence, and experiencing life.  Shirley loved to cook and could whip up a four course meal for six people in twenty minutes.  Later in life, her favorite thing to do was an evening away at the casino.  The excitement on her face was priceless.  Shirley had a sharp mind and could tell you every detail of a ranch rodeo or a trip to the Grand Canyon from 55 years ago.  Her wit and strong spirit will definitely be missed.

Her granddog, Boca, gave her joy and happiness.  Even in her last days, she was happy and joyful while spending time with Boca and the rest of the “Poodle Posse”.

Shirley was strong willed and very loyal to her beliefs.  Nowhere was that shown more than in her love and joy for the pride of her life, her daughter, Frieda.  She loved Frieda deeply and always.  She loved her son-in-law, Zane, too, but was sure to let him know that if he didn’t treat her daughter right that she would take a shotgun after him.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Victor “Doc” and Georgia Mae Jones; 2 sisters, Christine Rector and Barbara Bingham and a brother Victor Jones.

She is survived by her daughter, Frieda and Zane Morgan of Denton; 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; a brother, Andy and Betty Jones of Sherman; 3 sisters, Peggy Turner and Rhonda and Bob Elliott all of Seymour and Betty Sue Petty of Fairfield, Tx; Boca and the “Poodle Posse”.

Visitation will be from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
